” Blue and White Rabbits”..
Has anyone else heard that it is lucky to start a month off with the words ” White Rabbits”?
Years ago I was led to believe that if these were the first that you ushered at the beginning of a new month then it would bring luck for the month ahead. Let’s hope it works for the Gas but for the season rather than just a month. Hence we have blue and white rabbits .
It is the day that the players return to training and for Rovers it means a few questions will be resolved .
How many of the Sinclair, Hoole and Rossiter group will return – having taken up the contract offer?
Who will be the new back room staff ? Goalkeeping and first team coach numbers seem to be down and those guys will turn up today or so you imagine. We expect announcements there.
Finally there will probably be a new signing or two as yet unannounced and maybe a trialist or two out to prove that they are worth a gamble and a contract .
Playing wise we still seem to be short a forward or two and I can’t help thinking that something will sort itself in the next few days .
There are a few available , Nombe is probably surplus at Rotherham and the same for Adeboyejo at Bolton . He was with us once for a loan period but blossomed at Burton Albion and hasn’t quite hit the same heights since his move .
The reality is however that the last 7 days have shown that actually the fans with inside knowledge have been caught cold as so many of the signings appeard from nowehere and took us all by surprise. it proves that actually not many people know what s going on inside the club and that is not such a bad thing.. One of the few that was leaked was Cameron Dawson and ironically that didnt happen so it makes you wonder who let the news out and was an example of using the grapevine to their own advantage.
Anthony Evans will obviously be back for training today and I had thought that he would be gone by now but there is still plenty of time and i think that most of us would,like him to stay. Perhaps being around a new set of team mates with the positivety of starting a new project may help him feel good about the future here.
It must have been difficult for anyone to keep their morale positive in view of how last season finished and it was such a contrast to just 2 seasons earlier. As fans we had had enough and to be around that atmosphere day in day out must have been a downer .
As for the fans , well we come back with a fresh optimism but tempered by some of the news of what is going on around us with various competitors making aggressive moves in the transfer market. It feels good in a strange way not to be allowing hopes to get too high.
England are still in the Euros- just – but i quite enjoy that we are struggling – because it shows that even the best and most skilful players struggle against well organised teams of lesser ability who are better drilled , more tactically astute and playing as a unit. I have a feeling that will be us this season .
I almost forgot to say we have some loan signings still to do . But that can wait for another day .
