Chairman’s Q and A.
I was reading many of the forum responses to the Chairman’s questions and answers and it is kind of sad that most of the fans seem over cynical or just dismissive of the points being made .
Are the fans right to feel like that?
Funnily enough I feel more reassured by the underwhelming delivery of Mr AlSaeed’s plans and the drip feeding of information via the clubs own website .
It was suggested on “ Having a Gas “ that the owner does not respond to their requests for interviews and indeed they have a have a track history of playing their cards quite close to their chests and if anything being understated.
In case you hadn’t noticed it was really difficult even finding a picture of our new majority shareholder when the Chairman came into the club and most of us latchedonto the wrong guy completely. He is not exactly thirsty for publicity.
The press are always looking for their own scoop and the instant gratification of a leaked story.
That is understandable but it quite results in anticipation , false hope and disappointment . Energy is wasted explaining why things haven’t happened as expected and negativity sets in. Even Joey Barton- who is not averse to a little publicity - started an internal enquiry to discover how the local paper knew so much of what was going on inside the club.
Better surely to have a reputation for under promising and over achieving .
Coming from a business background however , I am aware that i perhaps have more empathy with the owners than the average fan simply because I have experienced the difficulties of leaked information.
We live in a society where style seems to be valued more than substance but I am still surprised that many Rovers fans want the empty rhetoric and promises of the past without accepting that true growth needs foundations.
I can only judge by what I see in the media with no inside knowledge .It seems evident though that the staffing infrastructure seems to have been built for the club to move ahead .
Let’s face it Rovers are still very much a small business and yet we have a management infrastructure in place of a much larger organisation. Just a few years ago many of the things being discussed today at the old Rag bag Rovers and beyond would have been done by the Manager or people – sometimes reluctantly to a role - by the directors . It would not be as professional as it is now.
Some of the new bodies are perhaps new to the jobs and unproven but they will grow with the club . They are perhaps under resourced and having to work hard but if the club progresses as we hope then their departments will inevitably expand.
The Chairman was very careful in the interview to repeat that the various managers would tell us about their jobs and what they have achieved and how they hope to progress.
That is classic empowerment - encouraging everyone to accept responsibility for their own actions .
From an employee viewpoint it is highly motivating to work for a boss where the owner is quick to praise the work of others and allow them to be seen by others to be doing a good job.
So in a way , I was quite heartened by the Chairman’s interview for exactly the reasons that many fans were disapointed.
All opinions are my own- who else would want them #UTG
