Inigo Calderon - our Christmas Gift ?

So it seems that we may have a Spanish manager with a history in the under 18’s game and being a good gas head , I will look through my bluebell  coloured specs to explain why I feel the guy could be good for us .

Modern Managers seem to fit into 2 categories .

There are the teachers who have taken all kinds of courses and exams , perhaps got a degree and they know the theory even if maybe they have not played at a very high level themselves. Usually they come from an academy background and there is a danger that they are a little too much theory rather than a real understanding of the “mens game”.

We then have the ex-player who knows the game inside out and feel that they are a natural shoe in because they have been a leader in the changing room and have played under managers and probably thought – “ I can do better than that “. Very few succeed.

Our new man offers the best of both worlds and hopefuly that should stand us in good stead.

He has understood that education is a science and has learned how to educate the youngsters that fall within his charge. He does not rely on personal aura but will understand the impact that his words and actions have on others. The fact that he has been seeking additional knowledge suggests an open mind.

At the same time he is a player who has been there and done that which will gain respect – not just because of his position at the club but because of his track record . He is not a footballer with a great deal of natural talent – or he would have played in the premiership – but he was good and worked hard at his game. He has made the most of the talents he possessed.

From the brief press clips he seems to have a good presence about him and we have lacked that over the last couple of years.

As for him being inknown and a manager of 18 years old lads then let’s face it a lot of the younger current managerial names were unknown just a few short years ago but are building their reputations by taking clubs like us up the ladder and hopefully he can do the same here .

If we visit Brighton - the club he played for - he rightly seems to have a “ legend “ status with a lot of supporters and was touted as a future manager at that club. He seems like a genuinely nice bloke as is evidenced by the link here- Unsung hero award.

The fans at our club need a manager who can unite us- even if it is for a limited period and hopefully he will do that . This club needs a lift in morale and maybe this is our Christmas gift .

Is there a risk ? Yes of course as with any new manager and if was the finished article he would not be at our level and on a wage our owners could afford . The reality is however that the possible benefit make this an appointment that looks worthwhile .

But then what do I know?

All opinions are my own- who else would want them   . #UTG
