Just shut Up Will You!
It was nice to go to the Mem on Saturday and not sit in our normal seats.
We were able to laugh about how one of the guys who sits near us normally would be viewing the game and the moans that he would be making and how the people around him must be enduring what we go through week after week.
You see what he doesn’t realise is that every gashead knows that we are not firing on all cylinders at the moment and we don’t need him to spoon-feed us his opinions. You don’t mind it in small doses because we all like a moan every so often but when it goes on and on…. Well you get the picture.
In fact it got so bad at the last home game that a 91 year old guy next to me who barely says boo to a goose turned around and shouted “ Why don’t you just shut up! “
Afterwards he turned to me and said “ I was a bit rude there”
Whilst I don’t profess to be an expert on football I can guarantee that you will never hear any footballer or commentator say that a team did better after they were booed by the crowd. The fact that fans booed during the cup tie against Weston is just plain stupid if indeed that happened - I couldn’t hear it but I am partially deaf.
In years gone by we calmed down in between games simply because there was no one to talk to 24/7 and 365 about Bristol Rovers . If we played poorly you had kind of chilled out in the week between games and forgotten how bad it was. You suddenly became optimistic before the next game and gave them another chance. I would go so far as to say that i have witnessed loads of worse teams at Rovers than this one in my 44 years or so and the atmosphere was never like it is at the moment.
Now however social media just builds up everything with false hopes and expectations or - as is the case at the moment - negativity.. It has also given a voice to people who just speak destructive nonsence
So as a gashead who wants to just enjoy going to games and until recently enjoyed being part of the Rovers community - I say to you loud mouths out there shouting out your constant never ending drivel of negativity –
JUST SHUT UP WILL YOU?
