Reasons to be cheerful - part 3.

So we were not very good for the first half . I am not sure why that happened and it is for the manager to sort that out.

Maybe Jamie Lindsay wasn’t ready for 2 full on games so shortly after returning from injury and that showed because he is such a high energy player . Certainly the return of Gavin Ward put the midfield problems right and when Hutch finds his legs and gives us extra resource then the midfield will become more consistent. I am sure that Hutchinson has the ability but his mentality is not quite right. Hopefully familiarity will correct that .

We let in a poor goal. Again this can be sorted out by learning lessons .it is kind of reassuring the the problems are not due to a lack of ability or pace but either a confidence thing or poor communication. Certainly Griffiths is a talented goalie and one of the best shot stoppers that i can remeber but he doesn’t seem to control his area and it is noticeable how quiet he seems compared to say Jed Ward who is very vocal for one so young amongst older team-mates. We shouldn’t have people hesitating and leaving it for each other and it is surely for the goalie to shout “ mine” or “ away” as he can see what is going on in front of him. The keeper needs to continue to come for crosses and yes he will miss the ball occasionally but he will improve and mustn’t be put off by the odd clanger .

Going forward we look better and for a team who couldn’t find the net just a few weeks ago , we have now scored 3 goals on 3 occasions this season which matches our total return for last season.

We seem to look more dangerous and comfortable when we run at the opponents and struggle when we just thump the ball up for the big man to knock down. Omichere is comfortable running with the ball. - lessons lesson learned we hope.

Forde looks like a natural goal scorer and that is a huge plus as those guys are like gold dust.

It doesn’t matter that Omechere is not a 20 a season goal scorer if he has the right people around him and he reminds me of Emile Heskey who simply causes havoc around him for others to cash in on. Michael Owen was such a great goal scorer because he played alongside Heskey for much of his career. They were the Smash and grab of their time .

Finally the overall mentality of the team. 4 points from losing positions . That’s more than we managed in the whole,of last season and we are just 11 games in.

It feels to me like we have turned a corner - lets hope so .
