A new Positive, Pro-active Rovers?.
The team jets off to sunny Portugal today and it seems that most of the signings are in place and preparations are well under way for the season ahead. The only time that I remember us seeming so prepared ahead of the first game is when most of the previous season players have been retained and the new recruits are minimal.
Last year we effectively made 11 signings for the new season and by the 21st July 2023 only 4 of them had been signed .
This year – by the 21st July 2024 – we have made 9 signings .
Everything about this season feels more professional. It is as if someone knows what they are doing and we have taken control of a situation rather than waiting around for other teams to make decisions for us. Plans seem to be in place.
Last year we started off the season with an excuse – ” it will take time to gel” as the team were getting to know each other . Portsmouth didn’t seem to worry about that even though they made a similar amount of signings.
To be fair , Rovers have had a change of ownership and it may simply be that more funds have been made available to put a proper backroom team in place who are capable of finding the players we need and then recruiting the players – desp[ite being told that we have a lower playing budget .
Whatever the reason – and it is not the philsophy of this blog to place blame – it feels as if things are under control and that people are really doing the job they are paid for .
The proof of the pudding will be after the season is underway and we find out the true nature of this team that has been built.
For the moment however – it feels good to be part of something that feels so positive.
