on the Road Again..

I am going to Peterborough tomorrow .

I downloaded an audio book to listen to in the car as that is a new pleasure . Not sure what I will listen to as I have just finished Alastair Campbells - “ So What Can I do?” Which I really enjoyed despite the fact that I am not a political animal. There is something about people reading their own books . I would recommend it if you have not read it already.

I think that my next listen will be a novel and the journey will be about 6 hours as a round trip so I should get well into it if I don’t find anything on the radio . I will edit this when I have decided what to listen to.

I have also downloaded stuff about the Battle of Naseby because I see that sign every time that I drive on the A14 and think - “ I must go there“. . Tomorrow I will set off early and tick that box. It’s meant to be haunted as the battle is relived time and time again but it’s been a while since I read that story - i think that i was a kid still when i was fascinated by the idea of sitting on a hillside and watching a battle from the English civil war take place in front of me.

I know that the site of Fotheringhay Castle is somewhere near Oundle which is a small place near Peterborough and so I may stop off there if I am early enough . That was where Mary Queen if Scott’s was executed and places like that fascinate me . I never liked history at school because it was just remembering dates and events but I often think that if I could take one of my old school exams again then it would be that subject and maybe even art because I have suddenly found an appreciation as I have got older.

I will get to Peterborough at about 2.00 hopefully and then leave at about 5.00 . It’s quite a good ground to get away from . Some are awful and you can be sitting in a queue an hour after the game has finished but not London Road .

There used to be a fantastic fish and chip shop about that way too but sadly that closed and so it will probably be a McDonalds at Droitwich at junction5 on the M5. Anyone else use that? There always seem to be a selection of footie fans but i never see gasheads. I am not a great fan of their burgers but I have a sweet tooth and I will get a McFlurry and Milkshake to see me through. It’s about an hour from home and I always like that sugary boost for the journey back.

I should be back by about 8.30 to 8.45 and thought it’s dark I can still take the dogs out for a walk as I like the fresh air after a longish journey .

Oh yeah I will be watching the game between 3 pm and 4.45pm but it’s a bit depressing thinking about that so just mentally block that from my thoughts as I want it to be a nice day.
