I choose laugh..
There is a saying that if you don’t laugh then you will cry and so I am choosing to laugh..
What a difference 180 minutes makes in the life of a Bristol Rovers manager ?
We have gone from a good start to a solid start to a “ sack the manager start “ .
What a difference 90 minutes makes as a young goalkeeper learning the ropes ?
We have gone from having a great young goalkeeper to one who needs replacing.
All of these things of course come from the fans forums and social media of which I am a member . I would however plead a case for some of us oldies in that we should not all be tarred with the same brush as we are not so eratic. Us oldies have been here before and recognise that things have a habit of working themselves out .
In 2009 , Norwich were beaten 7-1 at home in the opening game of the season in League1 and by the time they came to the Mem in the second from last fixture they were promoted . Such is the fickleness of football in that it was only 1 game and 3 points.
Shit happens .
As I walked away from the game on Saturday I even rationalised that it was the same mistake twice , goalie errors and then a demoralised team . None of it is insurmountable with the same squad of players and i was happy with that . i listened into Radio Brizzle as I drove home and it was quite good to hear them go on and on about the dark side particularly as their fans were moaning and for the 25 minute journey it felt ;like we hadnt even played . Some of them have such boring voices and just go on and on.
Eventually however 36 hours later , I have to check in on line and of course there is drama, drama and even more drama.
The concern of course is that this over the top reaction affects the players - the very thing that was being discussed at the Fans Forum just 2 days earlier . i wonder what Bryant Bilonga thinks about our wonderful fans now and he wasnt even playing. Confidence and self belief is so important and whilst we would love all the players to react with “ i will show them “ - but sadly thats not always how it works..
So I will go to London Road - or whatever they call it nowadays - and I will hope past hope that this was just a one off and we come back with a decent result..
I will remember that last season we went there and monopolised the play until against the run of play Peterborough scored and we capitulated . We had no resilience despite having an experienced team who should have known better . I felt sure that day that JB was on his way.
Has this team - which is younger and less experienced got more confidence about them than last year?
Until i know for sure i will stick with - “ it was a just a one off. You’ve got to laugh..”
All thoughts and opinions are my own - who else would want them?
